The 1983-84 O-Pee-Chee collection included 396 hockey cards featuring players from all 21 teams in the National Hockey League at the time. This was the lone set produced for the year with no Topps hockey cards produced.
This was the start of the Edmonton Oilers dynasty and the highest valued cards in the set generally belong to players from the team like Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Jari Kurri and Paul Coffey. Not full of historically significant rookie cards, the set does include the RC’s of Phil Housley, Steve Larmer, Bernie Nicholls, Brian Bellows, Guy Charbonneau, Pelle Lindbergh and Scott Stevens.

1983-84 NHL Season
The Edmonton Oilers dominated the 1983-84 NHL regular season with 57 wins and 119 points, a 15 point edge over the New York Islanders and Boston Bruins. The Oilers also had a fairly easy time of capturing the Stanley Cup championship. Edmonton swept the Winnipeg Jets in the opening round and the Minnesota North Stars in the semi-final while losing just a single game to the Islanders in the final. The only trouble they had was with the Calgary Flames in the second round with the series going the full seven games.
Wayne Gretzky dominated on an individual level. His 87 goals led the league with a 31 goal edge over second place Michel Goulet of the Quebec Nordiques. The Great One reached the 200 point plateau for the second of four times over his career. His 205 points earned him the Art Ross Trophy with a 79 point lead over second place Paul Coffey.
A handful of future Hockey Hall of Fame members made their first appearances in the NHL during the 1983-84 season. These players include Tom Barrasso, Chris Chelios, Doug Gilmour, Pat Lafontaine, Cam Neely and Steve Yzerman.
