Details

There is no source that verifies Andy Moog had five assists in the 1981-82 playoffs with the Wichita Wind. This would seem to be an ERROR as his point total over the seven games is 0. He did play all seen games in the CHL playoffs for the John Muckler coached Wind. In the opening round, Wichita swept the Nashville South Stars in three games. Without leading scorer Walt Poddubny, the Wind was then swept by the Indianapolis Checkers in the semi-final.

After playing sparingly for the Edmonton Oilers in 1980-81 and 1981-82, Moog was thrust into the number one role in 1982-83. He played 50 regular season and all of the team’s 16 playoff games with Grant Fuhr backing him up.

Andy recorded his first NHL shutout on February 27, 1983 in a game at Northlands Coliseum against the Winnipeg Jets. Moog made a modest 25 shots in the 3-0 victory. Charlie Huddy scored the game winning goal in the first period while Jari Kurri and Mark Messier also put pucks past Winnipeg goalie Brian Hayward.

Between 1980-81 and 1997-98, Andy Moog played 713 regular season and 132 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Edmonton Oilers, Boston Bruins, Dallas Stars and Montreal Canadiens. The four time Stanley Cup champion with the Oilers was awarded the William M. Jennings Trophy in 1989-90 with the Boston Bruins, sharing with Reggie Lemelin.
