Details

Brad Park would finish his career with seven all-star selections. He was named to the First Team five times and the Second Team twice. Never a Norris Trophy winner, he was runner-up in voting on an amazing six occasions. Four times, he was behind Bobby Orr and twice behind Denis Potvin. In 1977-78, he lost a tight race to Potvin, 155 votes to 135, finishing ahead of Larry Robinson, Borje Salming and Guy Lapointe.

Of course, the first blue liner to reach to 500 point plateau was Bobby Orr. Currently, Park’s career total of 896 points ranks him 13th all-time with Ray Bourque leading the way with 1,579. Bourque played 499 more games over his career than Brad.

1983-84 marked a major change for Park. After spending his stellar NHL career with the Rangers and Bruins, he signed with the Detroit Red Wings. He appeared in all 80 games for the Wings and led the club with 53 assists. He helped Detroit qualify for the post season for just the third time since reaching the final in 1965-66. They were bounced in the opening round by the St. Louis Blues 3-1 with just a single goal differential over the series and the final two games needing to be decided in overtime.

Between 1968-69 and 1984-85, Brad Park appeared in 1,113 regular season and 161 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Rangers, Bruins and Red Wings. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988.
