Card Notes

Not a spectacular skater, Earl is a heady player, and one of the NHL’s veteran playmakers. He makes difficult plays look easy. Quiet, softspoken and likeable, he developed with New York and has also played in Pittsburgh.

Details

1969-70 was definitely Earl Ingarfield’s swan song season in the NHL. He scored 21 goals in just 54 games for the Oakland Seals. It was the third and last time he would reach the 20 goal plateau. His personal best came in 1961-62 with his 26 goals tying him for eighth in the NHL with Dave Keon, Norm Ullman and Alex Delvecchio.

Of his 21 goals in 1969-70, six were scored in just two games. His two hat tricks doubled his career total and he finished with four. The last three goal game of his career is detailed in the Facebook post below. The first of the season allowed him to capture a win for the Seals over the Minnesota North Stars on the road.

On December 29, 1969 at the Met Center, Ingarfield started the scoring just 2:35 into the game on Minnesota goalie Cesare Maniago, assisted by Wayne Muloin and Bill Hicke. The Stars responded with a pair of goals but Earl tied things up at 2-2 before the first was over. In the second, Carol Vadnais and Bob Barlow traded goals before Ingarfield scored his third of the game and sixth of the season to make the score 4-3. This served as the game winner in the 5-3 victory.

Between 1958-59 and 1970-71, Earl Ingarfield played 746 regular season and 21 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Oakland Seals (California Golden Seals). Playing in the playoffs just four times, he was never on a team that won a series. In 1968-69, he did all he could, putting up ten points in seven games for the Seals but the team lost in the opening round to the Los Angeles Kings in seven games.
