Card Notes

Audio Version:

Carol is a young, solid hitting defenseman who will be trying hard to “stick” with the Canadiens. He had an 11-game tryout with Montreal last year and Toe Blake is giving him a chance to play steady this season.

Details

Carol Vadnais would play 31 regular season and one playoff games with the Montreal Canadiens in 1967-68, his last action with the club. He was picked up by the Oakland Seals in the off-season and instantly became a NHL regular with that club in 1968-69.

That one post season game with the Habs in 1967-68 technically made him a Stanley Cup champion. He would play a much bigger role with the Boston Bruins in 1971-72 in getting his second of two championships. He played all 15 games for the Bruins in their playoff run after coming over to Boston in a February 23, 1972 trade with Don O’Donoghue for Reggie Leach, Rick Smith and Bob Stewart.

The next big trade in his NHL career came on November 7, 1975 when he was shipped to the New York Rangers with Phil Esposito for Brad Park, Jean Ratelle and Joe Zanussi. In 1978-79, Carol reached the Stanley Cup final again but the Rangers fell to the Montreal Canadiens.

Between 1966-67 and 1982-83, Carol Vadnais played in 1,087 regular season and 106 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Oakland Seals, Boston Bruins, New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils. His time with the Devils was limited to 51 games in 1982-83.
