Card Notes
Has become Bobby Hull’s “shadow” since the retirement of Claude Provost and many other strong left wingers around the NHL are aware of the bulldog-like checking of Rejean, whose tough checking ability is not hampered by his rather small size.
Details
In the 1970-71 Stanley Cup playoffs, Rejean Houle scored just two goals in 20 games as the Montreal Canadiens captured the championship. However, the first was scored in game seven of the opening round against the Boston Bruins to put Montreal up 2-1. The Habs would win the game 4-2 and the series 4-3.
His second in the 1971 post season was a game and series winner in game 6 against the Minnesota North Stars in the semi-final. Houle broke a 2-2 tie at 13:29 of the second, putting one past Cesare Maniago with help from Henri Richard and Guy Lapointe. That was the last goal of the game and the Habs won 3-2.
Houle would go on to win five Stanley Cup titles with the Canadiens. He played all of his NHL career with the team, taking three years off between 1973-74 and 1975-76 to play for the Quebec Nordiques in the WHA. In his last year with the Nordiques, Rejean scored 51 goals and totaled 103 points.
Between 1969-70 and 1982-83, Rejean Houle played 635 regular season and 90 playoff games in the National Hockey League. In the WHA, he played 214 regular season games and 20 more in the Avco World Trophy playoffs.
