Rejean Houle actually only played in six of Montreal’s 14 playoff games in 1976-77 but was definitely a factor in 1977-78 with the Habs winning their third consecutive Stanley Cup title. Over 15 games, he contributed eleven points.
1976-77 marked the return to the NHL for Houle after a three year stint in the WHA with the Quebec Nordiques. In 1975-76, Rejean was fifth in the league with 51 goals and eighth with 103 points.
Not only did he help the Canadiens to a Stanley Cup championship in 1977-78, Houle had an NHL career best 30 goals during the regular season. Included in those 30 was a hat trick on the night of February 17, 1978 in a road game against the Washington Capitals. He scored the first two goals of the game and added a third in the third period in an 8-2 Montreal win. All three goals were scored on Bernie Wolfe. Yvan Cournoyer and Mario Tremblay both had three point nights as well with a goal and two assists each.
In 1968-69 with the Montreal Junior Canadiens, Houle led the league with 108 points to capture the Eddie Powers Trophy. He had an eight point edge over Marcel Dionne of the St. Catharines Black Hawks. His 53 goals were two behind leader Doug Acomb and three more than Rick MacLeish.
Between 1969-70 and 1982-83, Rejean Houle played in 635 regular season and 90 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Montreal Canadiens. Over a three year period from 1973-74 to 1975-76, he appeared in 214 regular season and 20 playoff games in the WHA with the Nordiques.
