Details

Pierre Pilote had a disappointing season in 1965-66, scoring just two goals for the Chicago Blackhawks while missing 19 games. He was coming off a career year in 1964-65 when he won his third of three consecutive Norris Trophy titles.

In 1964-65, Pilote put up career highs of 14 goals and 59 points. He had three 3-point games, two against Boston and one against the Montreal Canadiens, all 6-2 wins for Chicago. In the game against the Bruins on January 28, 1965 at Boston Garden, Pierre had a goal while also assisting on markers by Bill Hay and Chico Maki.

His lone goal in that match was scored shorthanded 8:57 of the second period with help from Fred Stanfield and Bill Hay while Stan Mikita was off serving a minor for cross checking. The goal, scored on Ed Johnston, made it 3-0 and held on as the game winner. It was Chicago’s second shortie of the game with Bill Hay scoring unassisted in the first with Al MacNeil in the box for tripping.

Pilote played 890 regular season and 86 playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1955-56 and 1968-69 with the Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs. He won a Stanley Cup with Chicago in 1960-61 and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1975.
