Card Notes

Stan has won practically every NHL Trophy, including three during the 1967-68 season. Small but very tricky.

En Français

Stan a gagné virtuellement tous les trophées de la LNH, y compris trois pour la saison 1967-68.

Details

Stan Mikita took that triple crown mentioned on the back of this 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee hockey card one step further. In 1966-67, he was also the recipient of the Art Ross, Hart and Lady Byng Trophies. Outside of those two seasons, he won the Art Ross Trophy an additional two times to go with the Stanley Cup championship with the Chicago Blackhawks in 1960-61.

With the absence of Bobby Hull from the Blackhawks in 1972-73, a drop in Mikita’s numbers would have been expected. However, despite playing just 57 games, Stan totaled 83 points on 26 goals and 56 assists. Over a full season, this would have put him on pace for 111 points. This would have placed him second in the NHL behind just Phil Esposito. As it was, he finished tied with Syl Apps for eighth for assists.

Despite his injury shortened year, Stan had a five point game in a 5-4 win over the Boston Bruins during the regular season. In the first game of the Stanley Cup playoffs, he again had a five point game, this time against the St. Louis Blues.

Between 1958-59 and 1979-80, Stan Mikita played 1,394 regular season and 155 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Chicago Blackhawks. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983.
