Stan Mikita played just 17 games in 1979-80, his last in the National Hockey League. He added two more goals to the total to finish with 541. Today, that ranks him 34th all-time, three ahead of Keith Thaczuk and three behind Maurice Richard. His 1,467 points now rank him 17th all-time. Stan was the sixth player in NHL history to reach the 1,000 point plateau.

Mikita proved he still had it in the game when he scored his final NHL goal. On November 25, 1979, the Blackhawks hosted the St. Louis Blues at Chicago Stadium. Stan had a goal and two assists in a 6-3 win for the home team. Goal number 541 was scored on St. Louis goalie Ed Staniowski and was assisted by Dave Logan and Mike O’Connell.

Between 1958-59 and 1979-80, Stan Mikita appeared in 1,394 regular season and 155 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Chicago Blackhawks. He was a four time Art Ross Trophy winner and two time recipient of both the Hart Trophy and Lady Byng Trophy.

Stan helped the Hawks to a Stanley Cup championship in 1960-61. He assisted on the final series clinching goal by Ab McDonald in game six. Chicago beat Detroit four games to two for the Cup win. Stan was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983.
