Details
Ross Lonsberry did get some NHL experience with the Boston Bruins before getting his chance as a regular with the Los Angeles Kings. Between 1966-67 and 1968-69, he appeared in 34 games for the Bruins, scoring a pair of goals. Both those goals were scored in November, 1967, the first against the St. Louis Blues and the second against the Oakland Seals.
That first NHL goal for Lonsberry was the lone marker in a 5-1 loss on November 1, 1967 at the St. Louis Arena. Ross scored at 17:48 of the third period to break Glenn Hall‘s shutout attempt. John McKenzie had the lone helper on the goal.
His big 144 point year in junior came in 1965-66 with the Estevan Bruins. Ross led the league in goals and points and he was a First Team All-Star at left wing. The Bruins won the SJHL title before being bounced by the Edmonton Oil Kings in the Western Canada Memorial Cup final.
On May 14, 1969, Lonsberry was traded to the Kings with Eddie Shack for Ken Turlik and a pair of draft picks. His time in L.A. came to an end midway through the 1971-72 NHL season when he was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers January 28, 1972 with Jean Potvin, Eddie Joyal and Bill Flett for Jim Johnson, Bill Lesuk, Larry Brown and Serge Bernier.
Between 1966-67 and 1980-81, Ross Lonsberry played 968 regular season and 100 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins. The two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Flyers reached the 20 goal plateau seven times over his career, topping out with 32 in 1973-74.
