Card Notes

In a real oddity, Ross played in 82 games last season, since he was traded from Los Angeles to Philadelphia just past mid-season. The entire regular schedule only has 78 games. Ross is a durable and tough winger and strong in the corners.

Details

Of course, at the time, Ross Lonsberry’s 82 games in 1971-72 was unheard of. Since, the actual schedule for a time increased to 84 and has since settled in at 82. The record for most games played in a single season now belongs to Bob Kudelski who played 86 in 1993-94 and Jimmy Carson with the same number in 1992-93.

Ross was part of a January 28, 1972 trade that also brought Bill Flett, Eddie Joyal and Jean Potvin to the Flyers while Serge Bernier, Larry Brown, Bill Lesuk and Jim Johnson went to the Los Angeles Kings. Lonsberry and Flett remained and were part of the 1973-74 Stanley Cup championship team. Joyal was gone to the WHA after 1972-73 and Potvin was traded to the Islanders before the end of 72-73.

Lonsberry was with the Flyers for their consecutive Stanley Cup wins but it was that first year, 1973-74, where he showed off his offensive ability. He had a career year during the regular season with 32 goals then added 13 points in 17 playoff games.

Between 1966-67 and 1980-81, Ross Lonsberry played 968 regular season and 100 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins. He reached the 20 goal plateau in seven seasons.
