Details

On July 23, 1957, Glenn Hall was traded from the Detroit Red Wings to the Chicago Blackhawks with Ted Lindsay for Hank Bassen, Forbes Kennedy, Johnny Wilson and Ray Preston. Over the two seasons leading up to that trade, Hall had played all Detroit’s 140 regular season games, posting 16 shutouts with a goals against average not much more than 2.00.

In 1955-56, his 12 blanks were tops in the NHL, three more than runner-up Terry Sawchuk, then with the Boston Bruins. He was tops in Calder Trophy voting, edging out Andy Hebenton, Henri Richard, Hec Lalande and Hank Ciesla.

Of course, his consecutive game stretch continued on until ending at 502. This is an unbeatable record for any goaltender playing in the NHL. The final game of the streak was played on November 7, 1962 at Chicago Stadium against the Boston Bruins. Hall was pulled at 10:21 of the first period after being injured while allowing a goal by Murray Oliver. He missed three games before returning to action.

Between 1952-53 and 1970-71, Glenn Hall played 906 regular season and 115 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues. A Stanley Cup champion with the Hawks in 1960-61, Hall was a three time winner of the Vezina Trophy and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1975.
