Card Notes

Norm’s tenth year with Wings was his best by far. His 42 goals topped circuit, his 83 points was second best. Pick to all-stars for first time. Has 237 goals.

Norm hit peak in goals and what other category last season?

Details

It turns out, Norm Ullman’s tenth season was a career best for goals. He would never top 42 goals again over his 20 year National Hockey League career. He would best his 83 points with 85 as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1970-71. Norm would hit the 87 point mark in the WHA with the Edmonton Oilers in 1975-76.

His 42 goals indeed led the NHL in 1964-65, three more than Bobby Hull of the Chicago Blackhawks. Only Stan Mikita of the Blackhawks was better than Ullman with 87 points, capturing the Art Ross Trophy.

1964-65 was the only time Ullman was selected as a First Team All-Star. He would be named to the Second Team in 1966-67, his only time with that honour.

The other ‘peak’ referred to in the trivia question at the bottom of the card is the 70 penalty minutes Norm sat. That would turn out to be a career high for PIM.
