Details

The sniper Lanny McDonald didn’t miss a beat after a December 29, 1979 trade sent him and Joel Quenneville to the Colorado Rockies for Pat Hickey and Wilf Paiement. With his new club, Lanny netted 25 goals in just 46 games to finish the 1979-80 campaign with a combined 40 goals.

In just his second game with the Rockies, McDonald scored a pair of goals in a 5-3 win over the Detroit Red Wings at the Joe Louis Arena. The goals were scored on Detroit goalie Rogie Vachon, the first assisted by Rob Ramage and Rene Robert, the second by Rey Comeau.

His time in Denver would come to an end on November 25, 1981, traded to the Calgary Flames for Don Lever and Bob MacMillan. Of course, with Calgary, Lanny would have an explosive 1982-83 NHL season, setting the current franchise record with 66 goals.

Between 1973-74 and 1988-89, Lanny McDonald played 1,111 regular season and 117 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Rockies and Calgary Flames. He helped the Flames to a Stanley Cup championship in his final season. Lanny was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992.
