Details

Although Eddie Shack was traded from the Los Angeles Kings to the Buffalo Sabres on November 25, 1970 (with Dick Duff) and played most of his 1970-71 NHL season in Upstate New York, The Entertainer is still shown wearing L.A. colours on the front of this 1971-72 O-Pee-Chee hockey card.

Eddie’s combined 27 goals, two with the Kings and 25 with the Sabres, turned out to be a career best, topping the 26 he scored with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1965-66. Shack reached the 20 goal plateau five times over his NHL career, each time with a different club. Interestingly, his role changed dramatically in the post season, scoring just six goals over 74 playoff games.

He would not last long in Buffalo. On March 5, 1972, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Rene Robert. Shack put up one quality season for the Pens while Robert became a bit of a legend in Buffalo over the next ten years or so.

Between 1958-59 and 1974-75, Eddie Shack played 1,047 regular season and 74 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins. Shack was a four time Stanley Cup champion with the Leafs.
