Details

1970-71 was a big year for Eddie Shack. He lasted just eleven games with the Los Angeles Kings to start the season. On November 25, 1970, he was traded, along with Dick Duff, to the Buffalo Sabres. The trade seemed to but a burr in his bonnet and he scored 25 goals in 56 games for Buffalo. Added to the two goals he scored to start the campaign with the Kings, his 27 goals were a career best.

Nine of those 25 goals came in three games, recording a trio of hat tricks for the Sabres. The first of the three was against the Kings and the second was versus another of Shack’s former teams, the Boston Bruins. The third was scored on the Pittsburgh Penguins, a team he would be traded to near the end of the following season, in exchange for Rene Robert.

Between 1958-59 and 1974-75, Eddie Shack appeared in 1,047 regular season and 74 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins. Though he only scored six goals over the 74 playoff games, one was the Stanley Cup winner in game 5 of the 1962-63 final against the Detroit Red Wings. He scored on Terry Sawchuk with assists going to Kent Douglas and Bob Pulford.
