Details

Cliff Koroll had an outstanding rookie season in the NHL, playing alongside Stan Mikita with the Chicago Blackhawks. He scored 18 goals and assisted on 19 more for 37 points. The first six points of his rookie 1969-70 season were goals and five were assisted by Mikita.

Koroll’s first goal came on October 22, 1969 in a game against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Cliff scored Chicago’s only goal, assisted by Jim Wiste and Doug Jarrett on Ed Giacomin in a 1-1 tie. It was one of six shots he put on net in the game.

Yet, Koroll was not considered for the Calder Trophy as NHL rookie of the year. Chicago players dominated the voting with Tony Esposito taking the award and Keith Magnuson finishing third behind New York’s Bill Fairbairn.
