Card Notes
Not enough can be said about the ” Golden Jet”. He’s hockey’s glamour boy. Nine times a first All-Star and twice the NHL’s MVP. Bobby has the league’s hardest slap shot and seems to set goal-scoring mark every year.
Details
Bobby Hull was coming off his record-setting 58 goal season in 1968-69. Missing 13 regular season games in 1969-70, his goal-scoring numbers were reduced to a still pretty impressive 38. His 58 goal campaign was powered by three hat tricks. One of those came in a 7-4 home win over the Boston Bruins that saw him and brother Dennis Hull combine for five of Chicago’s seven.
On December 8, 1968, the Blackhawks hosted the powerful Bruins at Chicago Stadium. The Golden Jet put three past Gerry Cheevers on just three shots. Dennis scored his 8th and 9th of the season with the second, scored at 10:36 of the second period, serving as the game winner.
His hat trick on February 20, 1969 at the Los Angeles Forum included a shorthanded marker. Hull’s first of the game and 39th of the season was scored on the penalty kill with Doug Mohns in the box. He pummeled Los Angeles goalie Jacques Caron with nine shots with the Hawks totaling 40 in the 6-2 win.
In 1969-70, despite the lower numbers, Bobby led the NHL in game winning goals for the second straight season with eight. He did not have the game winner in a 7-4 win over Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens on March 18, 1970 but did have a five point game. Hull scored his 33rd and 34th of the campaign while assisting on goals by Chico Maki, Cliff Koroll and Pit Martin. Maki’s goal was the game winner and went with three assists for a four point game.
Between 1957-58 and 1979-80, Bobby Hull played 1,063 regular season and 119 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Chicago Blackhawks, Winnipeg Jets and Hartford Whalers. He also played 411 regular season and 60 playoff games in the WHA between 1972-73 and 1978-79, all with the Winnipeg Jets. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983.
