Details

Wilf Paiement was the second overall pick at the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft, taken by the expansion Kansas City Scouts after an outstanding junior career with the St. Catharines Black Hawks. Greg Joly was taken first overall by the Washington Capitals. Wilf went on to play nearly three times as many games in the NHL as Joly.

Paiement actually tied for the lead in goal scoring with the Scouts in 1974-75, equaling the total put up by Simon Nolet. Wilf played six more games over the season than Nolet. Simon led the Scouts in overall scoring with a modest 58 points. Wilf has the distinction of scoring the only hat trick in Kansas City Scouts history – see the attached Facebook post below for more information.

Rosaire Paiement, Wilf’s older brother, played in 190 regular season and three playoff games in the NHL with the Philadelphia Flyers and Vancouver Canucks. He was a mainstay in the World Hockey Association, playing 455 regular season and 44 playoff games between 1972-73 and 1977-78 with the Chicago Cougars, New England Whalers and Indianapolis Racers.

Between 1974-75 and 1987-88, Wilf Paiement appeared in 946 regular season and 69 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Kansas City Scouts, Colorado Rockies, Toronto Maple Leafs, Quebec Nordiques, New York Rangers, Buffalo Sabres and Pittsburgh Penguins. 12 times, he reached the 20 goal plateau, topping out with 41 goals in 1976-77 as a member of the Colorado Rockies.
