A swift skater with a very hard shot, Simon comes to the Scouts from the roster of the Stanley Cup champion Philadelphia Flyers. He was the first non goalie taken in the Expansion Draft by the Scouts. A proven good scorer when he gets the proper playing time. Simon wasn’t an original member of the Flyers. He is able to play either right wing or left wing.

Simon Nolet was not an original member of the Philadelphia Flyers, true. He was a member of the AHL’s Quebec Aces, a team that the Flyers bought going into their inaugural 1967-68 season. In 67-68, Nolet mostly played for the Aces but was brought up to the NHL club for four games. The playing time increased over the next few years and by 1970-71, he was a regular with Philadelphia.
At the 1974 NHL Expansion Draft, after the Washington Capitals and Kansas City Scouts had selected two goalies each, Nolet was the fifth overall pick by the Scouts and the first non-goalie. Simon would be the team’s first captain, serving until a January 8, 1976 trade sent him to the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Nolet played 15 of Philadelphia’s 17 playoff games in 1973-74 as the Flyers captured their first Stanley Cup championship. After scoring 19 goals in just 52 regular season games, he scored just a single marker over his 15 playoff games. That goal came in game five of their semi-final series against the Rangers and was scored on Ed Giacomin. It was the third goal of the game for the Flyers in a 4-1 win.
Simon is credited with the first goal in Kansas City Scouts history. On October 9, 1974, the team played their inaugural match on the road in Toronto at Maple Leaf Gardens. Nolet scored 0:56 of the second period on goalie Doug Favell to make the game 2-1 for Toronto. The Maple Leafs went on to win the game 6-2.
Between 1967-68 and 1976-77, Simon Nolet appeared in 562 regular season and 34 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Flyers, Scouts, Pittsburgh Penguins and Colorado Rockies.
