Marc Tardif scored 31 goals for the Montreal Canadiens in 1971-72, 16 behind team leader Yvan Cournoyer. His NHL best would come a decade later when he scored 39 for the Quebec Nordiques in 1981-82.
Three of his 31 goals in 1971-72 came in a 5-1 road win over the Minnesota North Stars on November 13, 1971. Claude Larose scored the first two goals of the game, including a shorthanded marker that served as the game winner. Tardif did the rest of the scoring with the hat trick on Minnesota goalie Gump Worsley. Ken Dryden came through with 41 saves for the Habs.
Tardif would depart for the WHA after the 1972-73 season but not before winning two Stanley Cup championships with the Canadiens. He was phenomenal over his time in the WHA, winning two scoring titles and a championship with the Quebec Nordiques in 1976-77.
