Details

Jean Pronovost came up through the Boston Bruins system, playing junior hockey with the Victoriaville Bruins and Niagara Falls Flyers before two years of pro in the CPHL with the Oklahoma City Blazers. He came to Pittsburgh for the start of the 1968-69 NHL season, the team’s second in the league.

His 40 goals in 1973-74 was the first of four times he would reach the plateau. In 1975-76, Jean was the first in Pittsburgh franchise history to reach the 50 goal plateau, scoring 52. Pierre Larouche followed shortly after, both surpassing 50 in the same season.

Pronovost’s 603 points as a Penguin still place him eighth all-time. His 316 goals place him fifth behind a pretty decent group, including Mario Lemieux, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and Jaromir Jagr.

Between 1968-69 and 1981-82, Jean Pronovost played 998 regular season and 35 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Atlanta Flames and Washington Capitals.
