Boston intends to use Gerry in goal along with Ed Johnston. Most NHL clubs are adopting the two goalie system with much success. Gerry has won goalkeeping trophies in the AHL and CPHL. Has played 25 games in the NHL in the past six years.

Details

Gerry Cheevers won the Harry Holmes Memorial Award in the American Hockey League for the 1964-65 season. He appeared in all 72 regular season AHL games for the Rochester Americans. The team finished first overall and captured their first ever Calder Cup championship.

Before he was a NHL regular, Gerry also helped the Oklahoma City Blazers to consecutive CPHL championships in 1965-66 and 1966-67. In OKC, he was part of a trio of goaltenders that included Bernie Parent and Doug Favell.

Between 1961-62 and 1979-80, Cheevers appeared in 418 regular season and 88 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins. He also played 191 regular season and 19 playoff games in the WHA between 1972-73 and 1975-76 with the Cleveland Crusaders. The two time Stanley Cup champion was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1985.

Error Card

The back of the card states that Cheevers played in 25 NHL games over the past six years. And, it also says that he was not in the NHL for the 1966-67 season. In fact, both those statements are false. Prior to 1967-68, Gerry appeared in 31 NHL games, 22 with the Bruins in 1966-67, seven with Boston in 1965-66 and two games with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1961-62.
