Card Notes

Only once in eight years as Boston center has Don failed to score 20 or more goals. Needs only nineteen this season to hit 200 mark, though he’s still young man. Don won Lady Byng award three years ago when he collected 69 points.

This was a significant point in Don McKenney’s National Hockey League career. Don was traded to the New York Rangers 41 games into the 1962-63 NHL season. Going in the other direction from the Rangers to Bruins was Dean Prentice. His time with the Rangers didn’t last long. Just over a year later, McKenney was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs with Andy Bathgate. Going to the Rangers were Bob Nevin, Dick Duff, Bill Collins, Arnie Brown and Rod Seiling.

As for getting 20 or more goals to reach 200, McKenney accomplished that feat. With the Bruins he had 14 and with the Rangers he had eight for a 1962-63 total of 22. He finished his career with 237.

The ‘C’ on his jersey should be noted. McKenney had just taken over the captain’s role the year before, replacing Fern Flaman. After Don was shipped to New York, Leo Boivin took his place.
