Details

1961-62 was the start of fast decline for Don McKenney in the NHL. His 22 goals were the second last of seven consecutive seasons with at least 20. He took over for Fern Flaman as team captain at the start of the year but by February 4, 1963, he was on his way to the Big Apple in a trade that saw Dean Prentice go to the Boston Bruins.

The New York Rangers then dealt McKenney, the following year, to the Toronto Maple Leafs with Andy Bathgate for Bob Nevin, Dick Duff, Bill Collins, Arnie Brown and Rod Seiling. This allowed Don to win his only Stanley Cup championship with the Buds in 1963-64.

Between 1954-55 and 1967-68, Don McKenney appeared in 798 regular season and 58 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues. The 1959-60 Lady Byng Trophy winner went to the Stanley Cup finals twice with the Bruins and once with the Blues.
