Details

Bill Collins was the 16th player chosen by the Minnesota North Stars at the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft. Although he’d previously never played in the NHL, his rights belonged to the New York Rangers. He had come to the Rangers organization from the Toronto Maple Leafs in a February 22, 1964 trade with Arnie Brown, Dick Duff, Bob Nevin and Rod Seiling for Andy Bathgate and Don McKenney.

After five years in the minors, expansion sparked Bill’s NHL career. He was a regular with the North Stars for their first three seasons and put up a career best 29 goals with the club in 1969-70. However, prior to 1970-71, he was shipped to the Montreal Canadiens for Jude Drouin. After just 40 games with the Habs, he was on the move again, this time to the Detroit Red Wings with Guy Charron and Mickey Redmond for Frank Mahovlich.

Between 1967-68 and 1977-78, Bill Collins played 768 regular season and 18 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the North Stars, Canadiens, Red Wings, St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals.
