Details
Indeed, on Febuary 7, 1976 at Maple Leaf Gardens against the Boston Bruins, Darryl Sittler made NHL history with his ten point game. The point total remains an untouched single game NHL record today. His six goals included a natural hat trick in the third period. Lanny McDonald and Borje Salming each benefited with four points each.
This was the second of an eleven game point streak for Darryl. Over those eleven games, Darryl scored 12 goals and assisted on 15 for 27 points. This was a major contributor to his 100 point season in 1975-76. Despite the performance, he finished just ninth in the voting for the Hart Trophy.
His five goal game in the playoffs came in game six of the 1976 quarter-final series against the Philadelphia Flyers. His five goals and one assist for six points doubled the total numbers from the previous eight playoff games. These were the only five goals for Sittler in the 1975-76 playoffs. Toronto won the game to tie the series but the Flyers came back and won game 7.
Between 1970-71 and 1984-85, Darryl Sittler played 1,096 regular season and 76 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Philadelphia Flyers and Detroit Red Wings. Sittler was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1989.
