Details
1975-76 would be a historic season for Darryl Sittler and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He became the first Bud to reach the 100 point plateau with exactly 100. He would surpass the mark one more time in his career with 117 in 1977-78.
It was also the year that Sittler set the NHL record with ten points in a single game. That occurred on February 7, 1976 in a 11-4 win over the Boston Bruins. Darryl had six goals and assisted on four more. It was his first of three hat tricks on the season with three goal games against the Atlanta Flames and Washington Capitals, as well.
Still, Sittler was mostly shut down when it came to voting for the Hart Trophy. He finished ninth with just eight votes while Bobby Clarke of the Philadelphia Flyers took home the award with an overwhelming 246 votes. Darryl was also left out of the All-Star selections with Clarke and Gilbert Perreault being picked at centre.
Between 1970-71 and 1984-85, Darryl Sittler appeared in 1,096 regular season and 76 playoff games in the National Hockey League. The bulk of his success came with the Maple Leafs but he also played for the Philadelphia Flyers and Detroit Red Wings. Darryl was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1989.
