Details

His 34 goals scored in 1975-76 no longer even ranks in the top 50 for the New York Islanders. However, the 38 goals Clark Gillies scored in 1981-82 places him tied for 30th in team history with Mike Bossy, Pierre Turgeon, Derek King, Pat Lafontaine and John Tavares. Mike Bossy holds the team record with 69 goals scored in 1978-79.

The six time 30+ goal scorer was team captain for the Islanders from 1977-78 to 1978-79. He replaced Ed Westfall and was replaced by Denis Potvin. Gillies was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2002 and his number 9 was retired by New York in 1996.

Clark Gillies played 958 regular season and 164 playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1974-75 and 1987-88 with the Islanders and Buffalo Sabres. Originally the fourth overall pick by New York at the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft (behind Greg Joly, Wilf Paiement and Rick Hampton), he helped the Islanders to four consecutive Stanley Cup championships.
