Fans in New York cried “Hail, Caesar” during brief playing career with Rangers. Was MVP in Central League with Minneapolis in 1964-65. Playing in Stanley Cup playoffs with Toronto at just 22 years-of-age. Also played for Montreal Canadiens.

Cesare is hockey’s most well-traveled goalie – 13 cities in 8 years.

In 1964-65, Cesare Maniago played in 67 of 70 regular season games for the Harry Sinden coached Minneapolis Bruins of the CPHL. He put up a 2.75 goals against average with six shutouts. Cesare was named the league’s most valuable player. In the playoffs, the Bruins were led offensively by J.P. Parise while Maniago played every game in net. However, Minneapolis fell to the Fred Shero coached St. Paul Rangers in the opening round.

In 1960-61, Maniago played his first seven regular season games in the National Hockey League, backing up Johnny Bower with the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the post season, Cesare played two games with the Leafs falling in five games to the Detroit Red Wings in the opening round.

In those 1960-61 Stanley Cup playoffs, Maniago appeared in the first game of the series, stopping 37 of 39 shots in a 3-2 win for Toronto in overtime, their only win of the round. He also played the second game, a 4-2 loss, stopping 20 of 24 shots. Bower finished out the set.

Prior to this time with the Minnesota North Stars, between 1960-61 and 1967-68, he played for the following teams:

In 1965-66, Maniago was finally a full-time National Hockey League goaltender, playing for the Rangers. In all, he appeared in 568 regular season and 36 playoff games in the NHL, finishing up his career after the 1977-78 season. He would remain with the North Stars until moving to Vancouver for the 1976-77 and 1977-78 seasons.
