Bronco earned a NHL chance for his scoring record in the Western League at Edmonton. Wings traded him to the Rangers where he proved to be slick as a playmaker.

Details

Bronco Horvath’s year with the WHL Edmonton Flyers didn’t come until his fifth year of pro hockey. In 1954-55 he did bust out in a big way. In 67 games with Edmonton, Bronco scored 50 and assisted on 60 for 110 points. He led the league in goals and points.

That 1954-55 Flyers team was loaded full of future NHL stars. Joining Horvath in the lineup were John Bucyk and Norm Ullman with Glenn Hall between the pipes. The team finished first overall during the regular season by a wide margin. In the playoffs, they lost just a single game and captured the championship, sweeping the Calgary Stampeders in the final.

As it turns out, 1957-58 was a breakout year for Horvath in the NHL. He scored 30 goals and totaled 66 points for the Bruins. Two years later, in 1959-60, his 39 goals for Boston tied him for the league lead with Bobby Hull of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Bronco Horvath has the distinction of playing for five of the six Original 6 NHL teams. He played just a single game with the Montreal Canadiens but sat in the dressing rooms of every team but the Detroit Red Wings.
