Details

Bob Sauve didn’t add much to that NHL experience in 1976-77, appearing in four games with the Sabres. He spent the rest of the campaign in the AHL, split between the Hershey Bears and the Rhode Island Reds. It wasn’t until 1979-80 when he left the minors fully behind. In 1982-83, he played his NHL career high 54 games for Buffalo.

His first NHL game was not ideal. On October 13, 1976, he started against the New York Islanders at the Aud. Despite facing just 14 shots in the game, Buffalo lost 4-3. The first NHL goal scored against Sauve was an unassisted shorthanded marker by Ed Westfall.

Sauve did get one win out of those four games in 1976-77. On March 22, 1977 at the Omni in Atlanta, Bob made 31 saves in a 6-3 victory. Tom Lysiak pounded him with eight shots, getting just one through. Gary McAdam led the way for the Sabres with two goals and two assists.

Between 1976-77 and 1988-89, Bob Sauve played 420 regular season and 34 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks and New Jersey Devils. He was the 17th overall pick at the 1975 NHL Amateur Draft and the second goalie selected behind Gordie Laxton who went to Pittsburgh.
