Card Notes

Bob has been called one of the most under-rated stars of the NHL. Always gives a full effort and seems to be at his best in crucial games and Stanley Cup playoffs.

En Français

On a dit que Bob était l’un des joueurs les plus sous-estimés dans la LHN. Il fait toujours son possible et il semble être à son meilleur durant les joutes importantes et durant les éliminatoires de la Coupe Stanley.

Details

Perhaps his most important playoff performance came in game 3 of the 1966-67 Stanley Cup final. The Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs met at Maple Leaf Gardens with the series tied at a game each. Bob Pulford assisted on Toronto’s second goal of the game, scored by Jim Pappin and also assisted by Tim Horton, to put the Leafs ahead 2-1.

However, John Ferguson later tied the game at 2’s with an assist going to Jean Beliveau. The game went into overtime and the fourth period did not solve the issue. At 8:26 of the second overtime, Pulford scored the game winning goal on Montreal goalie Rogie Vachon with assists going to Pete Stemkowski and Jim Pappin.

Pulford’s top offensive season came in 1965-66 when his 28 goals, a career best, placed him tenth in the NHL, just four goals behind second place Frank Mahovlich but a distant 26 behind leader Bobby Hull of the Chicago Blackhawks. Four times over his career, Bob reached the 20 goal plateau.

Between 1956-57 and 1971-72, Bob Pulford appeared in 1,079 regular season and 89 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings. He helped the Buds to four Stanley Cup championships.
