His performance in 1972-73 with the Philadelphia Flyers was indeed a career high for Bill Flett. He would never again achieve higher than those 43 goals, 31 assists and 74 points. He came close in the WHA with the Edmonton Oilers in 1977-78 with 41 goals and 28 assists for 69 points.
Of his 43 goals in 1972-73, three came in a single game against the Buffalo Sabres. On January 21, 1973 at the Aud in Buffalo, Flett recorded the hat trick in a 4-3 win over the Sabres. As mentioned, Flett started his National Hockey League career with the Los Angeles Kings, joining the team in their inaugural 1967-68 season. He came the the Flyers via a midseason blockbuster in 1971-72 that saw him joined by Eddie Joyal, Ross Lonsberry and Jean Potvin. Going to the Kings were Serge Bernier, Larry Brown, Bill Lesuk and Jim Johnson.
After his time in Philadelphia, Flett had stints with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Atlanta Flames before jumping to the World Hockey Association. He returned to the NHL for 20 games with the Oilers in 1979-80 before calling it a career.
