They call Jude “Tex” because he lives in Houston. He was second to Buffalo’s Gil Perreault in the voting for rookie of the year in 1970-71. He’s a top-notch playmaker, but five of his 13 goals were game-winners last season. He’s a battler, and is always willing to absorb a bodycheck.

Jude Drouin was second in voting for the Calder Trophy in 1970-71 but quite a distance behind Gilbert Perreault. Perreault had 57% of the votes while Drouin had 19%. Also in the running were Gilles Villemure, Tom Webster and Dale Tallon.
In that rookie season, Jude established himself as a top notch playmaker. His 52 assists put him in a four-way tie for sixth place in the NHL with Bobby Hull, J.C. Tremblay and Fred Stanfield. However, that total was just shy of half of Bobby Orr’s league leading 102 helpers.
1972-73 would turn out to be a career year offensively for Drouin with 27 goals and 73 points. This placed him third on the North Stars behind Dennis Hextall and J.P. Parise. His time in Minnesota came to an end when a January 7, 1975 trade sent him to the New York Islanders, in exchange for Craig Cameron.
Between 1968-69 and 1980-81, Jude Drouin played 666 regular season and 72 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota North Stars, New York Islanders and Winnipeg Jets. He won the John B. Sollenberger Trophy as the top scorer in the AHL in 1969-70 when he put up 106 points with the Montreal Voyageurs. He was also handed the Dudley Red Garrett Award that season as AHL rookie of the year.
