In the 1975-76 Stanley Cup playoffs, Yvan Cournoyer continued his involvement in Montreal’s wins. In the semi-final series against the New York Islanders, he had the game winning goal in game one. In games three and five, he assisted on the game winning goal as the Habs took the series four games to one. In the final against the Philadelphia Flyers, he scored the game tying goal in game four as Montreal came back from a 3-2 deficit to win the game 5-3 and capture the championship.

The season before, Yvan had a game for the ages on February 15, 1975 as the Canadiens hosted the Chicago Blackhawks. In a 12-3 win, Cournoyer scored five goals and added two assists for seven points. He didn’t enter the penalty box at all that night. However, teammates Doug Risebrough and Larry Robinson both achieved the Gordie Howe Hat Trick. Mike Veisor was in net for the duration with Chicago.

Between 1963-64 and 1978-79, Yvan Cournoyer appeared in 968 regular season and 147 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Montreal Canadiens.
