Guy has developed steadily over the past three seasons without the benefit of minor league experience. He could be ready to move into “star” category. A smooth skater who can also play center. Guy is a specialist on the power play. He’s got a good touch around the net and is a fine playmaker. Guy had an amazing junior career and got lots of attention from NHL scouts.

The prediction was right, Guy Lafleur certainly did move into the “star” category in 1974-75. He scored 53 goals and totaled 119 points, more than doubling his numbers from the previous campaign. He was second in goal scoring, eight behind leader Phil Esposito. In the race for the Art Ross Trophy, Lafleur finished fourth, 16 points behind leader Bobby Orr.

Perhaps even more impressive, Guy scored 12 goals in just eleven playoff games in 1974-75. The Habs easily handled the Vancouver Canucks in the quarter-final but fell to the Buffalo Sabres in six games in the semis. He opened the playoffs with a four point night against the Canucks in a 6-2 win. He also had a hat trick in a game three 7-0 shutout over the Sabres.

Between 1971-72 and 1990-91, Guy Lafleur appeared in 1,126 regular season and 128 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Canadiens, New York Rangers and Quebec Nordiques. He helped the Habs to five Stanley Cup championships, won the Art Ross Trophy three times and the Hart Trophy twice. Lafleur was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988.
