Starting his 3rd season as an NHL regular, Yvan fits right into the fast-skating style of hockey the Canadiens are noted for. Like the great Maurice Richard, Yvan shoots left from a right wing position.

Details

1966-67 would begin a string of 12 consecutive NHL seasons scoring at least 24 goals for Yvan Cournoyer. In four of those years he scored at least 40, topping out with a career best 47 in 1971-72. That total placed him fourth in the NHL behind leader Phil Esposito, along with Vic Hadfield and Bobby Hull.

Also in 1966-67, Cournoyer recorded his first of eleven NHL hat tricks. On December 21, 1966, Yvan scored three goals, all on the power play, against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Montreal Forum. His second of the game, scored at 6:13 of the second period, assisted by Dick Duff and Henri Richard, stood as the game winning goal in the 6-2 Habs win.

Between 1963-64 and 1978-79, Yvan Cournoyer played 968 regular season and 147 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Montreal Canadiens. The member of ten Stanley championship teams was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1982.
