Card Notes

Rangers drafted this big left wing after his first pro year in Hawk organization with the Buffalo club. Showed plenty of fire and drive in limited chances. Short on experience, he has determination to make it as NHL regular.

En Français

Rangers éliminent ce gros ailier gauche après une première année professionnelle dans l’organisation du Buffalo. Démontrant beaucoup d’aptitudes. Il manque d’expérience mais posède la détermination pour devenir régulier dans NHL.

Details

Vic Hadfield came up through the Chicago Blackhawks organization, starting with junior hockey as a member of the St. Catharines Teepees. He played a major role in the club winning the Memorial Cup in 1959-60, beating the Edmonton Oil Kings in the final. Hadfield was teamed up with the likes of Chico Maki, Pat Stapleton and Roger Crozier with the Teepees.

Hadfield played a full season in the American Hockey League with Chicago’s affiliate, the Buffalo Bisons, in 1960-61 before being picked up by the New York Rangers. Moving to the Big Apple truly set Vic’s NHL career in the right direction and he would steadily improve into a 50 goal scorer. That feat came in 1971-72 when he scored exactly 50 while contributing 106 points for the Blue Shirts.

Between 1961-62 and 1976-77, Hadfield played 1,002 regular season and 74 Stanley Cup playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins. He played two games for Team Canada at the 1972 Summit Series against the Soviet Union. In 2018, Vic’s number 11 was retired by the New York Rangers.
