Card Notes

Perhaps one of the toughest wingers in the NHL, Vic was also quick to lose his temper. In 1963-64 season, he was most penalized player in the NHL. The last few seasons, Vic has learned to control his temper and while he is still a “policeman” on the ice for the Rangers, he has been more effective on a point producing basis.

Details

Vic Hadfield was a bit of a bust during the 1970-71 regular season with just 44 points in 63 games. However, he was point per game in the playoffs with 13 in 13 as the Rangers reached the semi-final before losing to the Chicago Blackhawks in seven. He had 46 penalty minutes in that playoff year, 34 of those came in one game against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the quarter-final.

Hadfield would explode for a career year in 1971-72. He became the first Rangers player to reach the 50 goal plateau with exactly 50. Just three other in team history have accomplished the feat: Adam Graves, Jaromir Jagr and Chris Kreider. His 106 points placed him fourth in the NHL, behind just Phil Esposito and Bobby Orr from the Boston Bruins and teammate Jean Ratelle.

Between 1961-62 and 1976-77, Vic Hadfield appeared in 1,002 regular season and 74 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins. His jersey number 11 was retired by New York in 2018.
