1959-60 saw Terry Sawchuk appear in 58 regular season games for the Detroit Red Wings, nine games short of his 1958-59 total. Dennis Riggin and Gilles Boisvert covered the rest of the games for the Wings. In Sid Abel‘s second year coaching the team, Detroit qualified for the post season after failing to do so in 58-59.

Sawchuk continued on with his second stint in Detroit until the end of the 1963-64 season. He would return to play 13 more games with the club in 1968-69. In all, Terry appeared in 972 regular season games in the National Hockey League between 1949-50 and 1969-70 with the Wings, Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers.

Chicago Stadium

As for the trivia snippet, Chicago Stadium had its capacity increased to 17,317 but had a record attendance of 20,069 on April 10, 1982 for a Stanley Cup playoff game between the Chicago Blackhawks and Minnesota North Stars. The venue opened on March 28, 1929 and closed on September 9, 1994.

The massive home crowd that night went away disappointed with the Hawks losing the game 7-1. Dino Ciccarelli recorded a hat trick and added an assist for a four point night with the Stars. Teammate Bobby Smith had a goal and four assists in the match. Smith also had a third period fight with Greg Fox for the Gordie Howe Hat Trick.
