Details

Ted Green came back in 1970-71 to play his first full schedule since 1964-65. His 42 points from the blue line neared his career best of 46 from 1968-69. It would, however, be his last full season in the NHL, playing just 55 regular season games in 1971-72 before jumping to the World Hockey Association.

Prior to missing the 1969-70 NHL season, Green finished third in voting for the Norris Trophy as the league’s top defenseman in the previous campaign. A great distance ahead of him were winner and teammate Bobby Orr and runner-up Tim Horton. Orr and Horton were named First Team All-Stars while Green and Ted Harris were picked to the Second Team.

The rugged defenseman had a pair of three assist games in 1970-71, both against the Detroit Red Wings over a span of three days. On March 16, 1971, he assisted on goals by Wayne Carleton, John Bucyk and Ken Hodge in an 11-4 Boston win. Bucyk’s goal was his 50th of the season. On March 18, Green assisted on two goals by John McKenzie along with Phil Esposito‘s 63rd of the season.

In 1971-72, Ted played ten games in the post season as the Bruins captured the Stanley Cup. The following year in the WHA, he was a member of the New England Whalers, the winners of the first Avco World Trophy as the league’s playoff champion. Later in his WHA career, Green won two more titles with the Winnipeg Jets.

Between 1960-61 and 1971-72, Ted Green played 621 regular season and 31 playoff games, all with the Boston Bruins. In the WHA, he played 452 regular season and 61 playoff games between 1972-73 and 1978-79 with the New England Whalers and Winnipeg Jets.
