Details

Steve Shutt would go on to play parts of 13 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens during his National Hockey League career. His 60 goals in 1976-77 led the NHL, four more than teammate Guy Lafleur. For nine consecutive seasons, he scored 30 or more goals. In four of those seasons, he had 45 or more.

Shutt appeared in 930 regular season and 99 playoff games in the NHL between 1972-73 and 1984-85, all with the Habs except for 59 games with the Los Angeles Kings in 1984-85 to end his career. He helped Montreal to five Stanley Cup championships and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993.

In 1978-79, Shutt recorded the seventh of his eleven career shutouts in the NHL. On February 3, 1979 at Maple Leaf Gardens in a 6-3 win over Toronto, Steve put three of his six shots in the net past Toronto goalie Mike Palmateer.

His junior career was spent with the Toronto Marlboros from 1969-70 to 1971-72. In his second season, 1970-71, Steve scored 70 goals and totaled 123 points. He finished second in goal scoring, one behind Rick Martin of the Montreal Junior Canadiens. The Marlboros reached the final before losing to the St. Catharines Black Hawks.

The following year, his goal total dropped to 63 but it was enough to lead the league. He scored two more than second place Don Lever of the Niagara Falls Flyers. His 112 points that year placed him fifth in the race for the Eddie Powers Trophy.
