Details
In his final year of junior with the Niagara Falls Flyers, 1963-64, Ron Schock scored 38 goals in 44 games. That total placed him tied for eighth in the league with Andre Boudrias, a distant 25 behind leader Yvan Cournoyer.
The Flyers were swept in the opening round by the Toronto Marlboros but they had the makings of a squad that would go to the Memorial Cup in the coming years. In net were Bernie Parent and Doug Favell. The roster contained several other future NHLers including Derek Sanderson, Bill Goldsworthy and Gilles Marotte.
That same year, Schock saw his first NHL action, appearing in five games with the Boston Bruins. He scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game. On February 29, 1964 at the Boston Garden against the Detroit Red Wings, Ron scored at 6:27 of the second period on Terry Sawchuk, assisted by Forbes Kennedy and Jean Guy Gendron. The goal tied the score at 1-1. In the third, Murray Oliver scored the game winner for Boston in the 2-1 victory.
After his only full season with the Bruins, 1966-67, he became the seventh player selected by the St. Louis Blues at the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft. He played 55 regular season and 12 playoff games for the Blues that year while also spending time in the CPHL with the Kansas City Blues.
Between 1963-64 and 1977-78, Ron Schock played 909 regular season and 55 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Boston Bruins, St. Louis Blues, Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres. He surpassed the 20 goal plateau just once, scoring a career high 23 with the Penguins in 1974-75.
