Indeed, on paper, it was a well-traveled road that Pat Quinn took before playing his first NHL game with the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 1968-69 season. Originally, Quinn was property of the Detroit Red Wings.
On June 15, 1966, Pat was picked up by the Montreal Canadiens. This meant a shift in the CPHL from the Memphis Wings, where he played in 1965-66, to Montreal’s farm team, the Houston Apollos.
Over the summer of 1967, Montreal traded Quinn to the St. Louis Blues. He spent the 1967-68 season with the Tulsa Oilers in the CPHL. He helped the Oilers to a championship with a win over the Fort Worth Wings in the final.
On March 25, 1968, Quinn was acquired by the Toronto Maple Leafs and his NHL career was about to begin.
Pat Quinn played 606 regular season and eleven Stanley Cup playoff games in the National Hockey League between 1968-69 and 1976-77. Along with the Maple Leafs, Pat also played for the Vancouver Canucks and Atlanta Flames.
Perhaps better known for his coaching days in the NHL, Quinn was head coach in the league from 1978-79 to 2009-10 with the Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, Vancouver Canucks, Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers. He won the Jack Adams Award twice, in 1979-80 with the Flyers and in 1991-92 with the Canucks.
