Details

1961-62 was Murray Hall’s first year of pro hockey after a major junior career with the St. Catharines Teepees. The back of this 1962-63 Topps hockey card notes his stats with the Buffalo Bisons in the American Hockey League. However, he did get his first NHL experience with two games for the Chicago Blackhawks.

In 1962-63, Hall wasn’t quite yet ready for the big leagues. He played the entire regular season in the AHL with the Bisons. However, he got to appear in four Stanley Cup playoff games as the Blackhawks were bounced by the Detroit Red Wings in the first round.

Unfortunately, Murray’s NHL career never took off. Between 1961-62 and 1971-72, he appeared in just 164 regular season and six playoff games with the Blackhawks, Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota North Stars and Vancouver Canucks.

However, the World Hockey Association was his salvation. He jumped to the WHA for the rebel league’s inaugural 1972-73 season. Hall played four years with the Houston Aeros, helping the club to two Avco World Trophy championships. In all, he played 312 regular season and 54 playoff games. Murray topped out with a 30 goal season with the Aeros in 1973-74.
