The folks at O-Pee-Chee went all-out to come up with that tidbit on the back of this Mike Walton hockey Card!

1978-79 was a bit of a train wreck for Walton. He had come over to the St. Louis Blues in an off-season trade with the Vancouver Canucks. Despite scored seven and assisting on eleven for 18 points in 22 games for the Blues, he was released by the team on December 2, 1978.

The Boston Bruins signed the free agent on December 5. Mike played 14 games with the Bruins, scoring four goals. However, he was released by the team on January 9, 1979. Next up was the Chicago Blackhawks. They signed Walton on January 22, 1979. He made 26 appearances for the Hawks, his last games in the National Hockey League.

Missing WHA Stats

The stats on the back of this 1978-79 O-Pee-Chee hockey card exclude three pretty spectacular years that Mike Walton played in the World Hockey Association. He spent 1973-74 to late 1975-76 with the Minnesota Fighting Saints. In his first year, he led the WHA with 57 goals and 117 points, earning the Bill Hunter Trophy and being named a Second Team All-Star at right wing.
