The info snippet on the back of this 1958-59 Topps Ken Wharram rookie card could be considered an ERROR. Wharram played four years with the Buffalo Bisons in the AHL from 1954-55 to 1957-58 and totaled 306 points, not 214 points in three years.
In his first year with the Bisons, Kenny led the team with 82 points and finished tied for second in overall scoring. He helped Buffalo reach the Calder Cup final before losing to the Pittsburgh Hornets.
He again led the AHL club in scoring in 1955-56 with 90 points. Wharram placed fourth in overall scoring, just a single point behind third place Camille Henry of the Providence Reds. His 63 assists were good for second in the league, eight behind leader Zellio Toppazzini, also from the Reds.
1958-59 was indeed the season that Ken Wharram became a regular with the Chicago Blackhawks. He appeared in 66 of 70 regular season games and contributed 19 points. Two years later, he played a pivotal role in the Chicago Blackhawks beating the Detroit Red Wings for the 1960-61 Stanley Cup championship. Kenny scored the final goal of the playoffs to cap a 5-1 Chicago win in game 6.
Between 1951-52 and 1968-69, Wharram played in 766 regular season and 80 playoff games in the National Hockey League, all with the Blackhawks. He topped 20 goals in his final seven seasons. His career best offensively came in 1963-64 when he scored 39 goals and totaled 71 points. He tied for second in goal scoring with teammate Stan Mikita, four behind leader and also teammate Bobby Hull.
