Details

First off, there is a slight ERROR on the back of this hockey card. The Kingston club in the OHA Junior A (aka the OHL) went with the English spelling of Canadians with three a’s and not two a’s and an e like the Montreal Canadiens. That franchise has since been renamed first the Raiders, following by the current name, the Kingston Frontenacs.

Ken Linseman was coming off a career high of 92 points with the Philadelphia Flyers in 1981-82, along with a career high of 275 penalty minutes. He led the Flyers with a single point edge over Brian Propp and a three point cushion over Bill Barber. His penalty minute total placed him seventh in the NHL, 13 behind sixth place Willi Plett and three ahead of eighth place Dale Hunter.

Over the day of August 19, 1982, Ken belonged to three NHL teams. The Flyers traded him to the Hartford Whalers, along with Greg Adams for Mark Howe. The Whalers immediately shipped him to the Edmonton Oilers for Risto Siltanen and Brent Loney.

Linseman made an impact in his first year with the Oilers, scoring a career high 33 goals. Three of those came on the night of February 19, 1983 at the Pittsburgh Civic Arena in a 10-7 win over the Penguins. Included in the Rat’s hat trick were his 27th, 28th and 29th goals of the 1982-83 NHL season. Two were assisted by Kevin Lowe who had a six point night with a goal and five helpers.

Between 1978-79 and 1991-92, Ken Linseman appeared in 860 regular season and 113 playoff games in the National Hockey League with the Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers, Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs. He won one Stanley Cup with the Oilers while also going to the final series with the Flyers, Bruins and Oilers in a losing cause.
